I’ve been provided a lot of opportunities which have allowed me to be very comfortable financially now and in the future. I recognize that this isn’t the case for most people, but I still feel like a lot of the lessons I’ve learned can be applied to many financial situations.
I left home at 17 and started working for the Federal Government under a fully subsidized university program. At the end of 4 years I graduated with a BA in Business Administration and started working full time in my department. At this point in my life I had zero consumer debt, a rental property, and a $50,000 salary with significant raises in my future. I started saving with the goal of eventually buying a property of my own, while trying to strike a balance between living now and being comfortable later. Now, a little more than 10 years into my career, I’m saving roughly 25% of my after tax income, while still living very comfortably. My goal is to be financially able to retire after 25 years of working full time, at the age of 42. This blog will outline in detail my financial past, my plan for the future, and perhaps most importantly my progress.
